The FDNY responded Monday after receiving a call around 3 p.m. for a report of workers hanging from a scaffolding located at East 75th Street and First Avenue.

Department of Building inspectors say that the workers were in the process of performing a facade restoration operation on the 23rd story when a motor on the scaffolding malfunctioned, leading it to fall about two stories before the emergency breaks activated and stopped the fall.

Officials say the FDNY rescued the workers through a window at the 21st floor. The workers are safe and in stable condition.

Contractors are now at work to replace the faulty motor via an adjacent suspended scaffolding.

East 75th Street remains closed off between First Avenue and Second Avenue.
