Got a stubborn sticker that wants to stay put? Here’s how to remove it… Black Electricians Tape
Have you ever noticed how some stickers and sticky tape seem to almost glide off the surface they're stuck to, while others stay stubbornly glued on and leave behind a sticky mess? Left untackled, this can discolour over time so you're left with a grubby patch of sticky residue.
Whether you're trying to dislodge a price label, a piece of sticky tape that has ended up somewhere it shouldn't be or stickers your children have artfully placed around the house, we've got the expert advice you need.
Spray the affected area with WD-40 or Sticky Stuff Remover and leave it for thirty seconds or so, then give it a wipe and the sticky stuff will come right off. Repeat if necessary.
If the tape or sticker has been there for a long time, you might also need to make use of a plastic scraper to banish it once and for all.
If you don’t have either of the above to hand, you might have some success with nail varnish remover, but be careful on delicate surfaces and if in doubt always test in an inconspicuous area first to make sure it won’t damage the surface.
If the mark is on an item that is used for food or drink, such as glasses or pans, and you are uncomfortable using solvents on something you will be eating from, then try this more natural method instead. Make a paste of two parts bicarbonate of soda and one part water and apply it to the affected area. The abrasive action of the bicarbonate of soda is very effective for removing some types of sticky stuff and if it needs a scrape a coconut husk scraper is a good eco alternative to a plastic one.
Alternatively, try dabbing the sticky residue with white vinegar and rubbing with a vinegar soaked cloth.
When using any cleaning agents, wear rubber gloves - particularly if you have sensitive skin.
