Orangeburg’s NAPA Auto Parts store has moved.
The store opened Thursday at 1031 John C. Calhoun Drive across from Firestone Complete Auto Care.
The store’s new 14,000-square-foot building will provide the business more space as well as ability to expand product lines to include heavy-duty truck parts and hydraulic hoses for cars, according to Richard “Rick” Towne Sr., NAPA Auto Supply and Equipment president and owner.
“We are growing and we needed more space,” Towne said. “In today’s world, it takes more parts to take care of people’s cars. We are planning on growing and we came to a larger building so we could grow for a lot of years.”

The plans are to eventually double the inventory and double the jobs at the business. The store currently employs about six.
The building formerly housed Lighting Creations Inc., a thrift and lighting-repair store.
It was not immediately known what would happen to NAPA’s former 6,300-square-foot site at 870 Doyle St.
“I have not made a decision,” Towne said.
NAPA Auto Parts has been in Orangeburg for 50 years. Towne purchased the store from the original owners about 10 years ago.
“My family has been in the business for 53 years,” Towne said, noting the family owns 14 stores. “What we are finding with Orangeburg is that there are always friendly people and a great customer base.”

Towne said he foresees Orangeburg continuing to grow, especially in light of Volvo locating in Berkeley County and other growth along the Interstate 26 corridor.
“We think it is a great town to invest in,” Towne said.
NAPA Auto Parts is open from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday and 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday. The store is closed on Sunday.
